Have you been wondering about Safety Data Sheets (SDS) that are required to be submitted for your product? The below guide will help with showing why an SDS is needed, the required information, and how to submit it to the Dangerous Goods team.
A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is a detailed document prepared by the manufacturer or importer of a chemical. It includes information on the properties, hazards, and safety precautions for handling, storing, and transporting the chemical. SDSs are mandatory for all chemical-based products sold on the store and can be obtained from the manufacturer or supplier. Selling hazardous products without a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) can pose serious risks.
Safety Data Sheets enable HAQM to do the following:
- Determine if products are regulated as hazardous goods.
- Classify products as hazardous, prohibited hazardous, or non-hazardous.
- Determine the correct handling and disposal measures for spills or leaks.
- Display the correct information on the product detail page.
- Confirm products as non-dangerous goods.
Note: If your listing is a bundle or a kit with multiple chemical-based products, you must provide an SDS for each product within the bundle or kit.
Required Information:
- Timeframe: The SDS must be created or updated within the last 5 years.
- Hazard Identification: The SDS must include new GHS/CLP hazard identification information listed on this page.
- Matching Product Details: The product name and manufacturer/brand name on the SDS must exactly match the listing details.
- Completeness: The SDS must include all 16 standard sections, listed on this page in the proper order.
How to submit your SDS:
1. Gather the required SDS information: Ensure the required information above is gathered.
2. Go to the Manage dangerous goods classification page in Seller Central: Click the “Upload document” button to start the SDS submission process.
3. Specify the ASIN, marketplace, and document language: This helps the Dangerous Goods team review the SDS for the correct product.
4. Choose the SDS file to upload: The file must be 20 MB or less and in a valid format like .docx, .pdf, or .jpg.
5. Click “Upload file”: A banner will confirm the successful upload. You can then close the window or upload more documents if needed.
The Dangerous Goods team will review your SDS within 2 business days (Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays).
Note: To check on the classification status of your ASIN, you can use the look up an ASIN tool at any time.
If you have submitted an SDS to the Dangerous Goods team and have any follow up questions, please start a new discussion thread in the “Product Safety and Compliance” category, share your Compliance case ID, and we would be happy to take a look at your request.
